Old Merchant House
This house belonged to a soy sauce merchant in the Meiji era. The gallery ceiling is 4 meters high - unusual for a village house. Rain on the roof sounds like a concert.
The covered gallery connects the main house to the storehouse (kura). We converted the kura into a bedroom with thick earthen walls that stay cool in summer.
The river is a 5-minute walk. Locals swim there in July and August. The water is clear and cold.
