Kurumi House

The house was built in 1904 by a family of silk farmers. The floor creaks. That's normal.

Inside, the irori sunken hearth still sits at the center of the main room. We added a modern kitchen with a stone cooktop, but kept the wooden ceiling beams exposed. The goemonburo outdoor bath is fed by well water and sits under the walnut tree.

In autumn, the courtyard fills with fallen walnuts. Toshi collects them and leaves a bowl on the table for guests.
